The 15th installment of the Belize Archaeology Symposium (BAS) is scheduled for June 28 ‐ 30, 2017 in San Ignacio, Cayo, Belize. The primary objective of the Belize Archaeology Symposium is to disseminate current archaeological information to the people of Belize, the tourism industry, and the general archaeological community.
It is envisioned that the conference will provide an interdisciplinary arena that will allow students, staff, faculty, and practitioners to discuss and exchange ideas about the latest developments in the field. Edited versions of the papers presented at the Symposium will be included in our annual publication series entitled “Research Reports in Belizean Archaeology”.
All presentations for the Symposium will be held at the San Ignacio Resort Hotel’s Bedran Hall starting on Wednesday, June 28th, 2017 and continuing through to Friday, June 30th, 2017. Each 20-minute presentation is followed by a 10-minute discussion segment. Presentations will be made focusing on the following topics: · The Origin of Ancient Maya Lifeways and Society: Preclassic and Early Classic Developments · Archaeology in Belize: Research Investigation Results
Registration will be held each morning of the Symposium starting at 7:30 am. Registration for Belizean Students with valid student IDs will be FREE, Belizean Attendees will be $10.00 per day and Foreign Attendees $20.00 per day. Lectures start daily at 8:30 am.
