Community Heritage Development

The Institute for Social and Cultural Research provides technical support and capacity building to enable communities to preserve and promote local heritage. This also includes partnering with stakeholders and communities to identify, designate and promote spaces of historical, social, and cultural significance.

For example, ISCR has supported the Annual Flowers Bank Festival which features a historical monument, permanent museum, heritage tours, and which builds public awareness of the June 1st 1797 Decision to Defend the Settlement. In partnership with the Forest Home Village Council, ISCR also recently embarked on the Forest Home Community Heritage Project which aims to document oral histories, digitize community archival material, and conduct research on the ex-confederate burials in the area.
