Archaeological Sites and Parks

The Institute of Archaeology is tasked with the protection of all archaeological and historic monuments in Belize. Archaeological sites abound across the country making Belize an ideal location for archaeological research. About 25 archaeological projects are conducted in Belize annually, placing Belize on the cutting edge of research and archaeological innovation.

Seventeen archaeological sites have been given reserve status. Many have been excavated and studied with partial restorations and the establishment of visitor facilities.
