The Institute for Social and Cultural Research is tasked with supervising, cataloging and disseminating research conducted on Belize. We also engage in conducting research on topics related to Belizean history, society, and culture. Additionally, we host an annual research symposium to promote the research results carried out by local and foreign researchers.
Under the NICH Act Chapter 331 of the laws of Belize, ISCR is required to supervise all proposed research involving humans that is conducted in Belize. This procedure is carried out to safeguard the safety, confidentiality and retention of research conducted in Belize.
Persons wishing to carry out research must apply to ISCR for a research permit before carrying out any field work.
Note: While all research must be approved by NICH-ISCR, the participation of citizens in any research is completely voluntary and based on informed consent. Additional approval must be sought from other relevant bodies and agencies where necessary.
