Terms of Agreement
By purchasing an entrance ticket to any of Belize’s archaeological reserves, you agree to comply with and be bound by all rules, regulations and policies established by the Institute of Archaeology and the National Institute of Culture and History.
Tickets are valid only for a one-time visit to the specified archaeological reserve. Each visitor must have a ticket. Tickets are valid for entrance up to six months following the date purchased. Once validated on site, the ticket is no longer valid.
Tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable. Exchange (for use at other sites) or at a later date will be considered only in cases of closures due to inclement weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances. IA/NICH Administration Office must be contacted for approvals on such instances prior to any exchange.
All prices are in Belizean Dollars (BZD). Discounted prices are available for Belizean students, senior citizens, and local residents on public and bank holidays. Proof of eligibility is required to qualify for these rates. Does not apply to any cave sites. The IA/NICH may update this agreement at any time. The amended Terms of Agreement may or may not be posted on our website when such change occurs.
Cave Sites Specifications (Actun Tunichil Mucnal (ATM), Barton Creek, and Nohoch Ch’een)
Cave sites, specifically the ATM, Barton Creek, and Nohoch Ch’een Caves, require guided tours for all visitors. Group visits should be booked in advance with a licensed tour operator.
All children must meet the 40” height requirement to be allowed entrance to the cave sites.
In order to manage visitor capacity at the ATM Cave, entrance tickets must be purchased in advance via the Cahal Pech Archaeological Reserve Ticket Office or the e-ticketing website. All visits must be booked in advance with a licensed Tour Operator.
Terms of Service
Visitors must behave in a manner that does not disturb the experience of others or harm the reserve’s environment.
Visitors are advised to take the necessary precautions, including staying hydrated and wearing appropriate clothing and footwear.
All garbage generated during a visit must be transported out from the reserve.
Visitors must comply with all posted signs and instructions provided by IA Park Staff.
- Visitors are responsible for their own safety and the safety of their belongings
- Children must be supervised by an adult at all times
- Access to certain areas may be restricted for safety reasons. Visitors must adhere to using only designated trails and paths.
- Photography for personal use is permitted. However, the use of tripods and other professional equipment is prohibited.
- Any commercial photography or filming requires an approved permit prior to entering the reserve
The following activities are strictly prohibited with the archaeological reserves:
- Littering
- Defacing or damaging archaeological structures
- Removal of artifacts or natural resources
- Drone use
- Engaging in any commercial photography and filming activity without prior written authorization from the Institute of Archaeology
- Smoking
- Alcohol consumption
Disclaimer Policy
By entering the archaeological reserve, the visitor assumes all risks associated with their visit, including but not limited to, risks of injury, theft, and damage to personal property.
The management and staff of the Institute of Archaeology, National Institute of Culture and History are not liable for any injuries, losses, or damages sustained during the visit.
Information, including but not limited to, operating hours, ticket prices, and policies, may change without prior notice. All efforts are made to provide accurate and ensure up-to-date information is available. It is advisable that visitors check our social media pages prior to any site visit to check for current weather updates or any advisories on site closures.
By purchasing and/or using an entrance ticket to Belize’s archaeological reserves, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to these terms of agreement and disclaimer policy. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, please refrain from purchasing a ticket and visiting the reserves.
