This archaeological site overlooks San Ignacio Town in the Cayo District.  The site sits in a lush jungle setting only a short 10-minute walk from the town’s center.  Cahal Pech, or ‘The Place of Ticks’ features a series of interconnected structures that showcase the evolution of Maya architecture over centuries.

Code of Conduct (All Sites):
During your visit to Belize’s Archaeological Reserves, it is PROHIBITED to:
 Excavate or willfully damage, destroy, deface or interfere with monuments
 Remove any plant, stone, earth or pottery
 Make loud or disturbing noise (shout, scream, whistle, sing, clap, etc.)
 Play loud music
 Camp within the boundaries of the archaeological reserves
 Hunt or feed wildlife
 Consume or entire with or under the influence of alcoholic beverages or any illegal substance
 Smoke or start a fire of any kind within the boundaries of the archaeological reserves
 Have pets run free; they must be kept on a leash and all waste must be removed from the reserves
 Enter any active excavations on site
 Sell or trade any materials within the boundaries of the archaeological reserves
 Litter; all garbage must be removed from the archaeological reserve
 Bring coolers or ice boxes; these must remain at the parking lot and designated picnic areas
 Have vehicle engines running while parked within the boundaries of the archaeological reserve
 Enter with tripods, monopods, selfie sticks or other photography/film stabilization accessories
 Conduct any Commercial Filming or Still Photography activity without the required approved
Film Permits from the IA Office
 Use a drone within the boundaries of the archaeological reserves
Performing acts or entering with object prohibited in this list will generate the immediate expulsion of
the visitor without reimbursement. The Park Staff of the Institute of Archaeology, National Institute
of Culture and History are the authority within the archaeological reserves.
