Located about 12 miles northwest of San Ignacio Town, El Pilar straddles the Belize-Guatemala border. El Pilar is a sprawling Maya city featuring over 25 plazas and numerous structures.  For conservation purposes, most of the structures have not been exposed.  The site also features a forest garden providing a glimpse into traditional Maya agricultural practices.

Opening Hours:

Open every day, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, including on Sundays and Public & Bank holidays

*Last Tour for the day: One (1) hour before closing *

For Visitor Safety:

  • Wear outdoor-appropriate footwear for rugged terrain
  • Remain on demarcated trails
  • Use handrails where provided
  • No loud noise, shouting or music permitted
  • No jumping permitted on monuments
  • Maximum of 15 visitors allowed per Tour Guide
