Dominated by the impressive El Castillo pyramid, standing at 130 feet tall, Xunantunich invites visitors to explore its intricate carvings and ceremonial architecture that reflect the sophistication of Maya society.  Xunantunich is located near the village of San Jose Succotz in the Cayo District.  A visit to the site includes a scenic ride across the Mopan River on a hand-cranked ferry.

Opening Hours:
Open every day, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, including on Sundays and Public & Bank holidays

Last Tour for the day: One (1) hour before closing (driving); One and a half (1.5) hours before closing
(pedestrians)

For Visitor Safety:

  • Wear outdoor-appropriate footwear for rugged terrain
  • Remain on demarcated trails
  • Use handrails where provided
  • No loud noise, shouting or music permitted
  • No jumping permitted on monuments
  • Maximum of 15 visitors allowed per Tour Guide
  • On arrival at the ferry, all passengers must alight from vehicle
  • On arrival at the ferry, all horseback riders must dismount
